Homesick Ski Trip Candle

Although candles bring relaxation, memories, and comfort, their open flame can be hazardous when not monitored properly.

Before Burning:

• Trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting. This prevents uneven burning, dripping, or flaring.
• Avoid drafts, vents, or air currents to help prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping.
• Burn for 2–3 hours each time you light the candle to help it burn evenly. Trim the wick before each burn.

While Burning:

• Never leave a burning candle unattended or lit while sleeping. Extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to bed.
• Never touch or move a burning candle or a container when the wax is liquified.
• Do not burn a candle all the way down. Stop when ¼ inch of wax remains.
• If burning multiple candles, place them at least three inches apart to avoid melting or drafts.
• Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts before relighting.
• Use extra caution during a power outage—flashlights are safer sources of light.
• Keep candles away from anything flammable such as furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, or decorations.
• Keep candles out of reach of children and pets and away from areas where they could be knocked over.

When Extinguishing:

• Use a candle snuffer if available—it’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering.
• Do not use water to extinguish a candle, as it may cause splattering or break a glass container.
• Ensure the candle is completely out and that no ember remains before leaving the room.
• Do not touch or move the candle until it has cooled completely.
