It is crafted sustainably from seagrass, locally-known as bankuan, a renewable resource hand-harvested from the coastal waters of the Philippines. Seagrasses can grow quickly without fertilizers or modern cultivation techniques. Some species can grow as much as 8 cm/day, producing multiple crops annually and can be cultivated without harming the environment. With its resistance to molds and eco-friendly characteristics, seagrass can be made into various products including this basket.

By purchasing this basket, you are supporting local artisans in the Philippines, particularly in rural areas, providing them with livelihood and fair wages while honoring their dignity as skilled craftspeople and preserving traditional crafts, techniques and knowledge.
