Our Heirloom Merino is colored in Italy using a best-in-class natural dyeing process that draws pigment from herbs, roots, flowers, leaves and tree bark. A library of more than 200 natural ingredients creates consistent, lasting color at commercial scale, without conventional synthetic dyes, chemical additives, dye powders or extracts. Even the colorfastness is achieved naturally, using other plants rather than chemical or heavy-metal mordants and fixatives.
This innovative approach significantly reduces the chemicals and toxic substances associated with conventional textile dyeing while creating color from renewable natural sources. Production waste is repurposed as agricultural fertilizer or biomass for renewable energy, further reducing waste and emissions. The process was the first natural dyeing technology of its kind to receive Woolmark certification.
