Your guide to getting organized

How to spring clean your pantry.

Explore easy, sustainable ways to revamp your kitchen organization.

Spring cleaning is always a good idea, and the most successful spring cleans start with small, doable tasks around your home. One of our favorite underrated places to tackle? Your kitchen cabinets and pantry!

A cleaner, organized, restocked pantry doesn’t just bring peace of mind — it also helps create healthier daily habits for the whole family. Keep reading for a step-by-step pantry cleaning guide, with some Grove-approved product recs to make the process a little easier.

1. Clear it all out

Start by taking everything out of your pantry to assess what you’ve got, toss what’s expired, and donate unopened items. Once the shelves are bare, give them a good wipe-down with a high-performing cleaning spray (Grove Co. Multi-Purpose Cleaner Concentrate would be a great choice here).

2. Swap in sustainable storage

Get rid of single-use plastic baggies and cracked plastic containers, which can leech microplastics into food, and in turn, and our bodies.[1] Instead, opt for refillable glass jars, stackable canisters, reusable food wraps, and silicone storage bags. We love the idea of creating refillable systems for your baking needs like flours and sugars, as well as common bulk-bin finds like rice, legumes, and pastas.

3. Put a label on it

Because our human brains enjoy some clear identification to cut through chaos. While we love the satisfaction of an actual labelmaker, you can also try the method used by many chefs and use painter’s tape or washi tape on containers paired with a good old permanent marker.

4. Plan future snacks and meals with purpose

Once your pantry is all clean and cleared, set it up to support the way your family eats. Keep healthy go-to’s at the front and center, stock up on favorite snacks for easy grabbing, and make space for new staples that align with your values, whether that means more organic recipes, non-GMO ingredients, grain-free or dairy-free options, or plastic-free packaging.
