Protect and restore tropical Indonesian peatland forest under threat of conversion, the Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project. Millions of acres of peat forests have been cleared for industrial use, and the threat is constant - in this case of conversion to industrial timber plantations grown for pumpwood. This project protects this critical ecosystem from illegal deforestation in partnership with 34 local Indonesian villages, whose traditional livelihoods are protected and supported over the long-term. The area is also home to large populations of local species including the endangered Bornean Orangutan and Proboscis Monkey, as well as over 67 mammal species, 167 bird species, 45 reptile species, 11 fish species, and 314 plant species.
