Support wildfire restoration in California with the Arbor Day Foundation

The Big Basin Redwood and Butano State Parks are home to ancient, towering redwoods. Many of these breathtaking trees are more than 1,000 years old and provide a home to a diverse web of plants and animals. However, in August 2020, a lightning-heavy thunderstorm sparked hundreds of fires throughout the region. These fires ripped through more than 86,000 acres of forested land in and surrounding the parks.

To help revive the area, coastal redwoods and native pine species will be planted to rebuild the tree canopy and support hundreds of species. These trees will provide food and shelter for various birds like woodpeckers and owls, mammals like bobcats, foxes, and deer, and smaller creatures like banana slugs, newts, and lizards.

As these new trees take root, they will also improve the health of the Waddell Creek Watershed and Butano Creek Watershed, which are vital water sources for the surrounding communities.
