If you buy handmade bar soap from a local vendor, plastic containers with an airtight lid are an excellent choice for storing extra bars that haven’t been used yet. Plastic soap containers are great for liquid soaps too — reuse old laundry detergent containers, or save your plastic hand soap bottles to refill and reuse. This is a great way to recycle old packaging instead of always buying new.
To store bar soaps that you currently use, you’ll want a dish made of wood, stone, or metal that has drainage holes. Bar soap needs air flow in order to dry between uses — without that airflow, your beautiful bar soaps will become gunky, sludgy masses that are impossible to use. To get the most mileage out of your bar soaps, keep them in a dry, well-ventilated area that doesn’t get a ton of sunlight.
Can’t live without your Peach bar soap? We don’t blame you — that stuff smells amazing. But when the travel bug bites and you’re itching to get outta town, how do you pack up your beloved bar soap for the ride?
There are a couple ways to do it. The first is using a bar soap travel case — they’re kind of like those plastic pencil holders from elementary school but smaller and, well, for soap. The second — and our favorite method here at Grove — is to toss it in a reusable food storage bag. They come in a bunch of different shapes and sizes, and the small ones make an ideal container for bar soap on the go.
No matter which method you choose to transport your soap, you’ll want to make sure the bar is totally dry before you put it back in its case. Just like the bar soap on the side of your bathroom sink or in your shower, if your travel bar isn’t dry before you store it again, it’ll make a melty, sloppy mess all over your bar soap container. Hard pass.
You’ve got bar soap for your body, shampoo and conditioner bars for you hair, and… no clue where to store them all. Bar soaps are definitely having a moment, and for good reason. Did you know that liquid soaps use 5 times the energy to manufacture and 20 times more energy to package than bar soaps? It’s true!
The best way to store multiple bars of soap in the shower is to get both a soap bag and a soap dish. Keep your body bar soap in the soap bag — they’re super easy to hang from your shower head or on the side of your shower. Store your shampoo and conditioner bars on a soap dish that’s made to hold two bars. If you don’t have a ton of storage space in your shower, you can use soap bags for all your bar soaps, or store your soap dishes in a dry place outside of the shower.
