How often you wash your hair largely depends on your age, ethnicity, hair length, hair type, and activity level. Younger people tend to have more active oil glands, which leads to "greasier" hair — and thus more frequent washes. Curly-haired folks know that frequent washing is the enemy and opt for weekly or bi-weekly washing.

More than that, and you risk drying out your scalp. Of course, you know your hair best, and oftentimes it's possible to get away with fewer than three washes per week if you use dry shampoo to manage oil between washes.
