8 best natural cleaner concentrates for your home.

WRITTEN BY Grove Collaborative • 19 min read

If you’re on a path to a more sustainable household, one of your stops along the way will be to switch out your ready-to-use cleaners for natural cleaner concentrates. Here’s an important lesson on sustainable cleaning — cleaner concentrates help the environment in multiple ways, including less plastic waste with smaller concentrate bottles and reusable spray bottle options to store them in ... instead of a new plastic bottle everytime a cleaner runs out. This helps keep plastic out of landfills and the ocean, which is a big win for consumers and the planet.

When looking at which cleaner concentrates to switch to, take your time to find one you really love as the switch can feel a little different at first. To get started on your mission to mix and clean, check out Grove members' top picks for the best natural cleaner concentrates for your home. Pick one, and just add water — it’s that simple to make a difference.

FAQs

What ratios should you use to mix cleaner concentrates?

If you’re new to using cleaner concentrates in place of your traditional household cleaners, you may have trouble determining how to mix them to get the most out of your product; however, the answer is pretty simple.

When mixing your cleaning concentrates like any of our Grove Co. Cleaning Concentrates (or any other glass cleaner concentrates), you’ll want to remember the ratio 3-to-1. What that means is for every one part cleaner concentrate you add, you’ll want to add three parts water. This will dilute your solution in order to give you enough to clean your home again and again. Before you mix though, make sure to double check the directions on your cleaner to make sure 3:1 is what tqhat specific cleaner calls for, too.

You also may not know, but one of the best things about using concentrated cleaners over other types is the reduction of plastic waste that’s saved when you reuse a bottle for your cleaner (instead of buying a new one). Less plastic bottles that are thrown away or recycled is actually a big step to drastically help out our planet.

How much Meyer's concentrate cleaner do you use?

When mixing Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface Concentrate cleaner, you’ll want to follow the directions the brand gives, which is to mix a fourth of a cup of the solution with one gallon of warm water. Once you’ve made your mixture, it’s then ready to use in your home as directed.

We recommend stocking up on spray bottles or storage containers once your glass cleaner concentrate or other type of concentrate cleaner is mixed because it’ll produce about 128 ounces of cleaner. You can try our Grove Co. Reusable Cleaning Glass Spray Bottle - Twist & Slide or the Grove Co. Reusable Glass Cleaning Spray Bottle - With Silicone Sleeve. Keep in mind these 16-ounce bottles will only hold a small portion, and you’ll need about 8 to store the whole gallon of formula. You can also buy air-tight buckets or another storage item to save your leftover concentrate if you only have one spray bottle to use at a time.

Which cleaner concentrates smell the best?

From Mrs. Meyer’s garden-inspired scents to Grove’s 100% natural fragrances, there are many naturally derived cleaner concentrates out there that smell wonderful — all you need to do is try some out to find which ones you prefer to use in your home. Some people even like to use different scents depending on the room they’re cleaning, so each room is associated with a different smell. This can be a really cool way to clean up and lighten the ambiance in each room.

These Grove Co. Glass Cleaner Concentrate Refills offer an option for an orange cleaner concentrate, while other brands may offer more options for citrus cleaner concentrates. Grove concentrates also are available in apple and pear blossom, lavender and thyme, and free and clear scents. The best smell for a cleaner concentrate really depends on you, so keep testing the waters until you find your favorite smell. Seasonal scents are also a fun way to go when they pop up around that particular time of the year.
