The 7 Best Natural Cat Vitamins and Supplements.

WRITTEN BY Grove Collaborative • 12 min read

It's easy enough to make sure your food and personal care products are healthy, but have you ever thought about your best furry friend? Yep, we're talking about Fluffy, or Bruno, or whatever your cat's name is. What you might not know is that most traditional cat food often lacks the full gamut of nutrition that your pet needs. If it's super processed too, that also signals any nutrition originally in the food has been essentially cooked out of it. That's why the ASPCA recommends a balanced diet with a mix of protein and probiotics – and you can find some of that here at Grove!

While they can't exactly tell you what they want (aside from meowing incoherently), we've done the heavy-lifting for you by sniffing out the very best in natural cat vitamins and supplements so you can focus on giving your cat all the love they need.

This list of products was determined by ratings and reviews from Grove members.

FAQs

Which supplements should you give your cat?

While obviously checking with your vet and taking age and breed into account, cats may benefit from a mix of joint support supplements, probiotics, and immunity boosters. While we aren't trained veterinarians ourselves, we'd argue these options would benefit anyone! Just make sure that you get the human versions if you decide to partake as well. Grove members also love this digestion aid by Kin + Kind that's good for dogs too!

Are there any supplements that are bad for cats?

Of course! You have to remember that although we love them like family, they're not actually human (shocker, we know). So taking their unique physiology into consideration is key for developing a nutrition regiment that helps and without hurting them in any way. Since we're not cat specialists per se, it's always best to consult your veterinarian if you're not sure. But at the very least, start with this clear-cut no-no list as directed by the ASPCA:

  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Coffee extracts
  • Iron
  • Vitamin D3
  • Xylitol

How often should supplements be given to cats?

This really depends on the breed, age, and size of your cat. Usually most supplements will come with dosage instructions, but your veterinarian is the best source of information. When in doubt, ask the pros how to keep Fluffy the healthiest she can be. And here at Grove, we'll do whatever it takes to offer you the best cat supplement options we know of. Our quality standards are already so high, which means that if it's displayed on our site, it's already made the cut.
