FAQs

How do I get my bathtub white again?

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Staying on top of any soap scum will keep your bathtub cleaner. We recommend that you give your tub a quick rinse after each soak or shower, followed by a wipe-down with a microfiber cloth to prevent streaks. Maintenance is key.

But what if your water has a high mineral content that leaves behind reddish-brown iron stains or filmy, calcified particles? Then it’s time to get your bathtub back to its original porcelain white.

A paste made of one part hydrogen peroxide and two parts baking soda should do the trick. Rub it in and let it sit for a half hour before a scrub and rinse. A natural powder cleanser like Bon Ami sprinkled on your tub’s surface or this tub and tile cleaner are also great alternatives.

How do you remove hard water stains from the shower?

White vinegar is one of the best shower tile cleaners. This versatile substance is ideal for removing hard water stains from your shower. Create a natural shower spray by mixing equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Slip on your cleaning gloves and let this bathroom cleaner soak for a minimum of 15 minutes after you spritz.

For simple maintenance and to keep mold and mildew stains from taking over your shower, select a biodegradable tub and tile cleaner made with plant-derived ingredients. Look for a bathroom tile cleaner that is paraben-free, phthalate-free, and phosphate-free.

Use labor saving tools like this Grove Co. Fresh Start Bathroom Bundle, which includes a multipurpose Tub Handler with three interchangeable brush heads: a bristle brush for scrubbing grout and tough stains, a non-abrasive scrubber for lifting stains, and a soft sponge for wiping surfaces and polishing fixtures.

Can you use toilet bowl cleaner to clean grout?

Cleaning those narrow cracks between tiles is likely the most time-consuming task on your bathroom cleaning list. It might seem like squirting toilet bowl cleaner onto your shower tiles to clean the grout is a good option, but the concentration of stain-removing ingredients required for each task is typically different.

Products for scrubbing your toilet may contain hydrochloric acid (corrosive for chrome) or harmful chemicals like chlorine bleach that you don’t want to breathe in while showering or soaking. Even if you use bathroom cleaning products with naturally derived ingredients, it’s best to leave those toilet bowl cleaners to themselves.

Instead, choose a bathtub cleaner designed for a specific duty. At Grove, you’ll find natural products that are either labeled as a shower grout cleaner or that can act as stand-ins for the job, such as distilled white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or baking soda.
